Spring cleaning and decluttering resources in the Seattle area

Congratulations, you’ve started your spring cleaning! Or, maybe you’ve made your todo list? Or, maybe you’re thinking about it, and going to get started soon? We get it. We all know the spring cleaning tasks, but getting going and DONE is the hardest part. Welcome to a blog post dedicated to spring cleaning RESOURCES. We’re sharing some vendors and resources to do it for you OR help get you over that finish line. So let’s get started…

Professional Home Organizers

  • Simplify Experts – Their team not only declutters your home but will teach you how to do it and maintain it. They also assist with packing and unpacking for your big moves.
  • The Orderly Space – They do it for you so you can free up your own time. And they bring in the product and systems with them.

Landscapers, Pressure Washing and Yard Work

  • Task Rabbit – Book help for any of your outdoor tasks! Download the app and search through service providers based on your needs.
  • Thumbtack – Another handy app to find service providers from yard work to to home maintenance.

Donation Drop-offs

  • Threadcycle is a free program developed to keep damaged and torn clothes, shoes and linens out of the garbage. These items CAN in fact be donated and many are repurposed into rags and used in insulation, stuffing and carpet padding. Goodwill, Value Village and many other local organizations accept Threadcycle items. You simply add the damaged items to your donation bag and donate! No extra work is required.
  • YWCA Pathways for Women Shelter – The shelter in Lynnwood is always accepting donations of new or unopened items. Check out their list as you may have something they need. We do a linen drive for the shelter every year – bedding and linens are always in high demand.
  • Interconnection is a Seattle-based non-profit that accepts used electronics that are then refurbished for charitable reuse. You simply drop them off at their Seattle location and they wipe the data – at no charge.

Resale or Consignment

  • Girlfriends Estate Sales – Assistance with full or partial estate sale services.
  • Hannah’s Attic Estate Sales and Appraisals – Full or partial estate sale and downsizing services.
  • ThredUp – Online consignment – you send them a bag full of your items, and they market and sell them for you. If your items sell, you get paid cash electronically or can get a shopping credit.
  • Poshmark – Online consignment typically for more well-known, high-end brands. You post, manage and negotiate your listings and send directly to the buyer.

Junk Removal – Just take it away!

  •  Happy Hauler Seattle – An eco-friendly approach to junk removal – they take everything and then donate or rehome whatever they can!
  • Busby Junk Removal – A full service removal from Everett to Tacoma.
  • Wire Free Sky – They remove unneeded telecom wires and satellite dishes from your property. Currently serving the Seattle area but often willing to go North or South, so call first to confirm if they will come to your area.

Junk Removal – Where do I take all these different items?

  • King County Hazard Waste – Takes items such as oil paint, fluorescent bulbs, pesticides and more. Check the list at the link to see all the items they accept.
  • Habitat for Humanity – Takes home decor, appliances, flooring, doors and more! They also have a paint recycle program where you can drop off latex and oil-based house paint, stains, and varnish in containers up to 5 gallons in size.
