Attract Buyers with Easy Exterior Updates

Emily Bishop, Realtor and Listing Specialist shares her tips on how to attract buyers with easy exterior updates.

Your home’s curb appeal is the first thing buyers see when your listing photo pops up online. And it’s also what entices them from the street to look inside. Here are Emily’s top tips to attract buyers with easy exterior updates!

New Exterior Paint

Exterior paint is one of the first things buyers see when viewing a house. Paint makes a huge first impression, and first impressions matter! When a buyer walks up to a freshly painted exterior, they feel like they are walking up to a new house that doesn’t need to be updated. This is a BIG appeal to buyers.

Fresh Landscaping

Freshen up the landscaping to show off the house and its property. Mow, trim, and plant to emphasize the yard space and brighten the grounds. Also, pressure wash any patios, the driveway, and walkways.

Porch Glow Up

Welcoming, inviting, and cozy starts outside! Add flowerpots filled with fresh, colorful flowers on your front porch. Update your doormats and layer them with an entry rug. What buyers see outside entices them to come inside, because attention to detail starts outside. When buyers see that the exterior has been well cared for, they will want to see the inside as well!

Outdoor Space Set for Entertaining

In the Spring and Summer, showcase your outdoor living space. When you set up the patio and yard for entertaining it shows buyers how they can enjoy the space. Be sure to include outdoor furniture, rugs, and pillows to add warmth and define the entertainment areas.

New or Newly Painted Front Door

A front door is the first thing a buyer touches, so a new or newly painted front door starts their home tour off on a positive note! Check out these front door color recommendations from Benjamin Moore.

New Exterior House Numbers

New modern numbers are a quick and inexpensive update. Most house numbers on older homes are too small, hard to see, and well-worn. Therefore, add large numbers in a contrasting color to the house paint in a well-lit area to instantly improve curb appeal.

New Light Fixtures and Uplighting

Lighting also sets the tone of the house. Uplighting can showcase landscaping, walkways, and entries to make a home instantly inviting. New exterior lighting modernizes porches, patios, and decks, which creates the perfect atmosphere.
