The Six Degrees spin on the latest home decor trends for color, wallpaper, fixtures and accents
The 2023 home decor and color trends are bold and bold. What might surprise people the most this year is in the color category. And boy do we mean COLOR…get ready for a pop of this color! The Pantone 2023 color of the year is Viva Magenta, a bold, saturated pinkish red. And similarly, most of the major paint companies have followed suit featuring mauves, pinks, and earth tones.
Now before you get too caught up in the vision of your bubble gum pink Eighties bedroom walls (or was that just us?), let us introduce you to the deep, rich, and warm pinks of 2023. Color is having its moment, but don’t worry, we still love neutral colors and believe strongly in them for a home that’s about to go on the market. That said, let’s have a little fun envisioning how to make these colors and the other home decor trends work in your home.
Pantone Color of the Year: Viva Magenta
Benjamin Moore Color of the Year: Raspberry Blush
Sherwin Williams Color of the Year: Redend Point
Dunn Edwards Color of the Year: Terra Rosa
These colors tend to the bold and our listing specialist, Emily Bishop believes that they are best suited on a feature wall, piece of furniture, or in an art piece. If your design style is more eclectic then you could try them on wallpaper or an area rug. Sherwin Williams Redend is a much softer approach to the mauve and pink movement. Although still a bold choice to paint a room, it could work in a bedroom or powder room.
Krylon Color of the Year: Spanish Moss
Another great example of a color that can be used as an accent is Spanish Moss. As a rule of thumb, bold paint or wallpaper is often best in a smaller space or pass-through space such as bathrooms, dining rooms, or a den. However, a kitchen island painted in Spanish Moss in a neutral kitchen sounds like an excellent choice (we approve!).
Wallpaper
Wallpaper continues to be in and rising in popularity, especially in small spaces like we mentioned above – powder rooms, laundry rooms, and dining rooms. It can be the statement of your room but consider it as another texture that you can layer with your art, wood finishes, and furniture.
Fixtures and Finishes
Color and texture are replacing all white and neutral spaces. Warm rich wood tones are in, grey wood and anything fake looking are out. Traditional and vintage designs are on the rise. And speaking of vintage, trend forecasters predict that Art Deco will be making a comeback this year – think geometric shapes, rich finishes, and a modern feel.
The Art Deco feel ties in with another design trend we can expect in 2023 – shiny metals. Emily says that mixed metals and chrome will be popular. If you’re looking to get on trend with your lighting, Emily recommends a big bold statement light fixture in your main living space.
